The performance line-up is loaded with rhythms ranging from reggae, dub, and dancehall, to hip hop, funk, soul, and even drum&bass.

There will be DJs and bands throughout the day… Friday morning will open with the world-fusion vibes of Tribalian, and there’ll be hip hop in the afternoon with Delfina Dib. On Saturday, we’ll welcome the charismatic Mad Muasel with his dancehall, and Sunday will close with DJ Karlixx and his jungle rhythms.

10 more survival tips for your visit to Spannabis

Going to Spannabis is like entering an aromatic jungle of stimuli: With so much to see, do, and try, it’s important to be prepared. So here are some practical tips to make the most of the fair without killing yourself in the process:

1. Buy your ticket in advance: Spannabis tickets are usually sold out a few days before the event, especially three-day passes. The price at the box office can reach €55 for the full pass, but buying them online usually includes discounts and priority access so you can avoid the long queues.

2. Avoid peak hours at the entrance: If you don’t want to queue forever to get in, it is best to arrive after 11:00 am, when the doors open; or do it at lunch time, when most of the visitors have already gained entry.

3. Bring cash and check the available payment options: Although many exhibitors accept card payments, cash is still king in some areas of the fair. Besides, ATMs tend to have long queues or run out of money quickly, so carry some small notes just in case.

4. Make a strategic route around the stands: If there are certain brands that you’re particularly interested in, locate their stands on the map of the fair that you will get when you first go in. Avoid the classic mistake of wandering aimlessly before realising that you missed key exhibitors.

5. So yes, you need to plan carefully in advance, but also be flexible: There are talks that overlap with concerts or with the award ceremony, so it’s time to prioritise. Having said that, make sure you also leave yourself some time to improvise – sometimes the best of Spannabis is what you discover out of chance.

6. Don’t overload yourself with merchandising: Many stands (if not all) distribute flyers, samples, and promotional bags. Although it sounds great, carrying a lot of stuff from the start can be uncomfortable; so, if you’re interested in merchandising, leave it for the end of the day or bring a backpack to keep it all in.

7. Wear comfortable shoes and carry a survival kit: you’re going to walk a lot. The event is large, and you will be standing around most of the day, so comfortable shoes are essential. Also bring a reusable water bottle (there will be fountains or stalls where you can fill it up); some snacks for the mid-afternoon slump (although there will be food trucks all over the place); and maybe some earplugs if you plan on being near the music stage for a while.

8. Be patient and have an open mind: Queues can be long, especially at popular stands. Be patient, and use those minutes to chat with the people next to you (you’ll make friends from all over the world!). And keep an open mind: Spannabis is a meeting place, and everyone is there for the love of the plant, so the atmosphere is usually incredibly positive.

9. Enjoy yourself responsibly: Although Spannabis is a big party, remember to follow the rules of the venue. It is forbidden to consume cannabis inside the fair. And if you go out for some fresh air (you know what we mean), bear in mind that if you’ve only got a one-day ticket, you can’t come back in again once you leave. And above all, take care of your belongings and your friends, and do not underestimate the time: it’s easy to lose track of it in the midst of so much activity.

10. If you want to continue with the experience after the fair, Barcelona has excellent social cannabis clubs where you can chill in a more relaxed atmosphere. Just do some research before you go, as these clubs require membership and don’t always accept spontaneous visitors.
