Does marijuana make your penis bigger?

De: Contributor Cultura

The use of marijuana has become increasingly popular in recent years, and there’s a major ongoing debate about its possible effects on human health. And while some studies suggest that cannabis can have positive effects on sexual function and fertility, there has been little research into its possible effects on penis growth in humans. Let’s have a look at what science has to say about the relationship between weed and our little best friend!

Using marijuana for pleasure, especially to intensify and improve your sex life, is one of the most powerful effects that this plant has to offer. And this is no big secret: users around the world can certainly vouch for the effects that cannabis has on sex. That’s why the sex cannabis industry is huge: nowadays, you can find everything and anything… From THC-infused lubricants to chocolates, suppositories, candles, or massage oils… Each product has been carefully designed to enhance everything related to sex.

But did you know there’s another possible effect derived from mixing marijuana with your intimate routine? In the case of men, it could actually help enlarge the penis.

Can marijuana help you get bigger erections?

Firstly, it’s important to stick to the truth: most clinical studies on the relationship between cannabis and sex show contradictory results. However, we must also keep in mind that there may be a bias because effects differ drastically according to the biology of each individual, even more so than with other substances. Cannabis literally causes both excitement and inhibition at molecular level, while other compounds tend to cause just one or the other. And, for some people, the excitement can be more pronounced, whereas for others the inhibition tends to be more evident.

This happens because cannabis is a biphasic compound, meaning that low and high doses can cause opposite effects. So although cannabis can decrease anxiety or reduce inhibitions and pressure when it comes to sexual activity, high doses may actually damage its alleged aphrodisiac qualities.

While there is a significant amount of research pointing to the sexual enhancement properties of cannabis, it should be noted that the dosage always matters. Especially for men.

While women can tolerate virtually any dose of THC in the bedroom and still enjoy it, without having to worry about lack of libido or how it will affect their performance, it is quite the opposite for men: getting too high can have the reverse effect, making them feel ‘too lazy’ in bed. And it can even make it difficult to get an erection.

Relationship between priapism and cannabis

Anecdotally speaking, a countless number of men may say that using marijuana in various formats is the most effective natural aphrodisiac that there is. However, a scientific study that went viral in 2020 went even further when it reported that a 32-year-old man had an erection for 12 hours. The erection was so painful that he had to go to A&E, only to be discharged and return later with another 6-hour erection. Long, painful erections are a characteristic symptom of a condition known as priapism; and, in this case, doctors blamed it on cannabis use.

Another 2018 case study examined a priapism sufferer who had not used marijuana, but rather synthetic cannabinoids created in a lab. The authors of the new report regard this case study as “supporting evidence” of the theory that cannabis caused the patient’s lasting erection, although they point out that synthetic cannabinoids are “100 times more powerful activators” of the cannabis receptors in the body. “If synthetic cannabinoids can cause priapism, the cannabis plant, which affects the same [cannabinoid receptors], could also enhance this reaction”, says the report.

Cannabis and erectile dysfunction

If you’ve been struggling with erectile dysfunction or with getting erections in general, marijuana could be the answer. Recent studies suggest that cannabis can influence the growth of the human penis by activating specific receptors in the body. Cannabinoids have been found to bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors, which are responsible for regulating cell growth and differentiation.

A study conducted in 2017 found that the activation of the CB1 receptors in the penis can lead to increased blood flow and improved tissue oxygenation, which could in turn promote penis growth. In addition, the activation of the CB2 receptors in the penis can lead to an increase in the production of key growth factors, such as the human growth hormone (HGH) and testosterone, which are essential for phallus growth.

What’s more, it has been hypothesised that the compounds found in cannabis, namely CBD, can have a direct impact on the cells that form the male sexual organ, favouring its growth and development. And this could in turn cause an increase in the size and girth of the penis.

In fact, scientists have discovered the presence of cannabinoid receptors in the cavernous smooth muscle (and no, this isn’t an aesthetic judgement, but a technical term for a kind of involuntary and flexible muscle in the penis). The smooth muscle constitutes between 70 and 80% of the penis. When relaxed, it dilates the lacunar spaces that are filled with blood, which causes an increase in the size of the penis. Therefore, it is suggested that cannabis has a physiological role in an erection by interacting with this muscle.

After all, if you study the properties of marijuana, you can see that it’s a natural vasodilator, meaning that it can help to open the blood vessels in veins and arteries. Cannabis promotes blood flow, which is necessary to relax our private parts enough to have sex. And that means that, when men have found the perfect dosage, marijuana can increase the size of their penis (or at least make it look bigger). And that’s something that sounds like a benefit, no matter which way you look at it!
